Ikari Shinji, 14 years old, designated pilot of Eva-01, is a quiet boy. His father, Ikari Gendou, Supreme Commander in NERV, left him alone when he was still a baby, so he doesnt like his father. One day he was suddenly called by his father to be the Eva pilot. This is not what he wants to do, but he knows that this is the only way to know his father more and get closer to him. He is referred to as "Third Children"(the third qualifier).
"Why choose me? Why should I be the pilot?"
"What am I actually fighting for?"
"For the world? For my father?
"Or...for myself?"
